Koala Gifts

The koala is broadly similar in appearance to the wombat (its closest living relative), but has a thicker coat, much larger ears, and longer limbs. The koala has large, sharp claws to assist with climbing tree trunks. Weight varies from about 14 kg for a large southern male, to about 5 kg for a small northern female. The koala's five fingers are arranged with opposable thumbs, providing better gripping ability. The first two fingers are positioned in apposition on the front paws, and the first three fingers for the hind paws.

The koala is one of the few mammals (other than primates) that has fingerprints. Koala fingerprints are similar to human fingerprints; even with an electron microscope, it can be quite difficult to distinguish between the two. A Koala Skeleton The teeth of the koala are adapted to their herbivorous diet, and are similar to those of other diprotodont marsupials, such as kangaroos and wombats.

A member of the parrot family, the lorikeet is not the only bird in this zoo setting that will try to get friendly with you; the Eastern Water Dragons also tend to get friendly with visitors as well. Dog shows are always fun at zoo's and this one has The Sheep Dog Show. They have three different show times at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary to make it easy to see. The dogs really are incredibly trained and you can see that they are well loved by their trainers. The show is fun and will surprise you with what they are capable of. One special treat is seeing Phoebe who is a memorable and adorable part of this action without being in the show. Who has not wanted to actually hold a koala bear. They are the cutest things imaginable. You can have a chance to do this and also get close and hold some species of snakes too. There is also a place where you can have kangaroo's and wallabies eat from your hand. There are both red and grey kangaroo's here. They also have several different type of wallabies. There is the pretty faced, swamp, and the red neck wallabies and they are incredibly friendly. Spread across hundreds of acres of land, the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary should be a stop for anyone traveling around the Brisbane region. Come and see one of the most amazing zoos in the entire world where the staff is friendly and the animals are too.
