Fur Real Friends Luv Cubs - Polar Bear
This electronic and interactive Polar Bear cub really is adorable. Covered in soft fur and measuring just over 12-inches tall in the seated position, the fun-loving bruin makes a number of different sounds depending on how you play with him. He will make slurping noises when you place the included bottle in his mouth, and start to coo and relax when you give him a hug. And if that wasn't enough, you can even make the cub giggle by tickling him in the right place. Each bear comes with its own special adoption certificate and a plastic feeding bottle. Requires 3 "C" batteries (not included), along with a Phillips head screwdriver to install or change the batteries.

This lush, cozy bear has an impossibly soft white coat and easily became a favorite with our testers. Its oversize shape and huggable body make this plush fellow a perfect naptime companion for any child (or kid at heart). Anne Geddes 9" Baby Bear
An impish smile plays tag with dimpled cheeks on this chubby baby's face. Swathed in a furry costume, Anne Geddes's Baby Bear sits solidly on its beanbag bottom, grinning, trying to decide just what sort of harmless mischief to attempt next. Rounded ears and tilted feet are trimmed in flannel, and the plump body is matching caramel-colored fur. With its peanut nose and twinkling blue eyes, Baby Bear makes a cheerful companion for crib or car seat. There are no loose or extended parts to get pulled off and lost, and beanbag baby can be machine washed and tossed in the dryer. The fur looks as though it could mat after several washings, but you can probably prevent this by brushing it. --Julie Ubben

|
Anne Geddes 15" Baby Brown Bear
Even if winter's on the way, this little bear has no worries. Warm as toast in a costume of silky fur, Baby Brown Bear wears a sweetly placid expression. Part of a collector's series based on Anne Geddes's bestseller Down in the Garden, Baby Brown Bear has wide-open brown glass eyes that give the vinyl face a realistic look, and tiny hands barely visible below each sleeve. Smooth cinnamon-colored ear linings and pads on the feet contrast with the honey hues of the suit. Baby Bear's soft beanbag body is cuddle-friendly, yet lightweight enough for a 3-year- old to tote around. And the doll can balance sitting up, thanks to just the right amount of beans in the seat. The costume isn't removable, but when things get a bit bedraggled, Baby Brown Bear can go right into the washer and dryer for a speedy cleanup. An occasional once-over with a brush should keep the fur looking spiffy. --Julie Ubben

Care Bears Fun n' Fit Bear: Funshine Bear
If you're looking for tricks, the ones here are comparable to what you'd see with other electronic "dancing" toys, so though you'll find something different, you won't find something "new." But Funshine Bear offers double the sentimental value: for today's kids and for parents who grew up with the original Care Bears. There's a very cheery, fluffy, non-calorie burning workout (as evidence, note the forehead sweatband), but it's performed to Olivia Newton John's "Let's Get Physical," the summer-camp favorite "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes," and Cindy Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." Parents will be amused, and kids between 3 and 6 can get a bit of exercise with a fun partner, without the monthly fees. Required: 4 "AA" batteries. Diane Beall

10" Tye Dye Care Bear with Blow Pen: Bedtime Bear
In an odd bit of juxtaposition, the Care Bears have been combined with sets of blow pens to form two toy components that are plenty of fun on their own even though they don't necessarily match up all that well together. Here we meet the blue Bedtime Bear who has been colored in what's being called a "tie-dye" pattern even though there isn't much in the way of dramatic color variation. Bedtime comes with a set of multi-colored blow pens, which spray colorful ink on to paper, spray paint style, when breathed into. The ink is not machine washable so extra care should be given when playing with them but the pens are designed so that the ink cannot be accidentally inhaled. Both the stuffed animal and the pens are nice on their own but outside of a vague attachment to bright colors, there appears to be no relationship between them, as even the packaging cautions not to ever blow ink on to the Care Bear. --Charlie Williams
