Dolphin Gifts

Dolphins are marine mammals that are closely related to whales and porpoises. There are almost forty species of dolphin in seventeen genera. Dolphins are often regarded as one of Earth's most intelligent animals, though it is hard to say just how intelligent. Comparing species' relative intelligence is complicated by differences in sensory apparatus, response modes, and nature of cognition. Furthermore, the difficulty and expense of experimental work with large aquatic animals has so far prevented some tests and limited sample size and rigor in others. Compared to many other species however, dolphin behavior has been studied extensively, both in captivity and in the wild.

Dolphins are social, living in pods of up to a dozen individuals. In places with a high abundance of food, pods can merge temporarily, forming a superpod; such groupings may exceed 1,000 dolphins.

Dolphins as Favorite Animals

The human race has always had a fascination with animals. We love them and most of us are no exception. A love of various kinds of animals from dogs to tigers can be found across the planet. One of the most intelligent animals on the planet is the dolphin. These unique animals have been regarded highly by humans for many centuries. The ancient Greeks believed that if dolphins were seen around a ship while they were leaving on a journey, then it was considered a good luck charm. This is just one of the many references in history to these unique mammals that interact with humans in a way that is unique only to them. However, some people have animal preferences that cannot be cuddled. In fact some may never be able to touch their favorite animal at all. Thanks in part to wildlife refugees and places such as Sea World people can come in contact with their favorite animals on a daily basis. For example, for those who love dolphins, they can actually feel these incredible animals at the dolphin tank at Sea World. Loving a dolphin may be hard to understand, but dolphins hold a mystique that is all their own. They are the protectors in the sea, and being in love with this creature can make one have a life long love affair with the dolphins.

So how you ask can a dolphin be a favorite animal? Well, many reasons really. For one, they are extremely playful in both the wild and in captivity. In a world that is chaotic and rarely full of play, dolphins add a charm to that only they can do. They are very friendly to humans even when they are encountered in the wild. If you have ever visited beeches where dolphins swim close to, then you may understand how a dolphin may be considered playful. They play off of the beach and can even come in contact with those who are swimming in the ocean.

Those who love dolphins usually keep them close in many ways even if they do not live on the beach. Unlike a dog or a cat that cuddles with you on a consistent basis, dolphins cannot do this. So, people fill their homes with many reminders that give one a sense of being with their dolphin friends. For example, one can find dolphin jewelry to adorn themselves with or they can also have a variety of ceramic sculptures of these magnificent creatures as decoration in their home.

Anyone can collect dolphin items. Because dolphins are so popular all over the world, the market is filled with wonderful items that can be collected. Everything you can imagine is available. For example, if you love sculpture, then you can find unique coffee tables that have multiple dolphins crafted in a playful gesture as their base. Many think that dolphin art is tacky, but if you look hard enough, you can find great pieces that do not look like dime store art.
